Fishing for Brown Trout in the River Don in Strathdon

The River Don flows right past here and permits for salmon and trout are available from the local hotel, currently priced at £19 per day. This covers a 9 mile beat where the main attraction for the visiting angler is the wild brown trout in its fast flowing runs and rocky pools. Fish six to twelve inches long are common, with a few larger ones up to three pounds, although the largest fish are wary and more challenging to catch.

The brown trout season runs from 1st April to 30th September, with the early season often producing the best fish in these upper reaches. Visitors later in teh season might want to try their luick a few miles downriver. The salmon season runs from 11th February to 31st October.

Fishing for rainbow trout is available at Mossat Fishery near Kildrummy, Tullich fishery near Ballater and Ardgeith fishery in Strathdon.
